Vanderhorst Plantation

After ten years of working on Kiawah Island, I finally had the unique and rare opportunity to tour the Vanderhorst mansion.  I might have done a little happy dance when I realized that not only was I permitted on the grounds BUT I was going to get a tour of the INSIDE!  I was like a little kid in a candy shop.  I took over 100 pictures, but scaled them down to a cool 80.  I definately felt transported back in time when touring the entire property.  From the amazing tree lined drive, to the expansive mansion, to the perfectly manicured lawns, to the gorgeous river view, there isn't a thing I would change about this place.  (Except the owners-I'd love to own this piece of land)

If I am not mistaken, this house dates back to 1736.  What I wouldn't give to go back in time for just one day.  (I couldn't be away from modern technology for too long!)

Enjoy the tour:

The River House-b/c the main house isn't large enough.....

  1. Ohhh, now I know which house you were talking about. This is really funny, one of my prints on my wall gallery is a picture of the entrance that I took of this mansion - since that's about as far as we got! What an awesome opportunity you had to an inside tour. The sun room is amazing!

  3. Wow, my history is somewhat quite different. My grandmother birth certificate noted this plantation as her birthplace. He ancestors were slaves on this plantation for generations.

  4. Totally pics are not original. The house was in shambles and had to be completely redone. There was raccoon poop and also of interest Civil War writings on the plaster of soldiers.

I took a piece of the original stairwell at 8 years old and was haunted til I threw it away 6 months after. So was my brother.

  5. The house was not safe and closed off, as it was in shambles and a hazard to fall down. I give the owners props on building a nice replica!! It does resemble it. But 20.5M.... ?
