One of the most beautiful things about this island is its natual beauty. You won't see tall skyscrapers or huge vertical hotels on Kiawah Island. Everything is built to certain standards to enhance, not take away, from Mother Nature.
Each year, millions of tourists come through Kiawah-either staying for the day, a weekend, or a a week. (Some are lucky enough to stay for several weeks) Why do they love coming here?-because of its beauty, peacefulness, and tranquility. So we have one request to ask you. Respect our island. Respect the wildlife, the beaches, the bike trails and other public spaces.
So many times I will see children filling up beach buckets with wildlife from the beaches. LIVE wildlife. Starfish, hermit crabs, sand dollars etc. And while, yes, I realize that they are children having fun on the beach, take this unique opportunity to TEACH them about the wildlife. Teach them to throw back a starfish or observe the hermit crab. Don't allow them to stick them in a bucket to bring back to your home or villa. 9 times out of 10, they are left outside to die and are then thrown away. What a waste.
The Nature Center offers so many amazing, hands on, classroom sessions on the wildlife. Why not sign your children or yourself up for one of the sessions or tours!
