4th of July

I cannot believe that it is almost the 4th of July!  When I was younger, this always felt like the kick off to summer.  Now it is the count down to August, one of the HOTTEST months in South Carolina.
Kiawah is known for being one of the best family destinations in America and boy do we offer a lot of activities for families on the 4th of July.  You can't say that Kiawah isn't one of the best places to celebrate this holiday, sand, surf, and two fireworks shows can't be beat!  Activites take place all weekend long from a movie in the park on July 3rd, to sand sculpting contest on the 4th.  There is something for everyone!

Activities on July 4th include:

10am-11:30 am-Sand sculpting contest at boardwalk #5
4:30 pm-Patriotic bike parade-Come out and decorate your bike at the park to ride it in the patriotic parade that goes from Sea Forest Drive to East Beach Village.  The Kiawah Island Fire Department will lead the way!
5:30 pm-Celebrate on the Terrace Lawn at The Sanctuary with an all american band and culinary delights.  Children's games will take place on the lawn.
5:30 pm-Join the festivities at Night Heron Park.  Enjoy the sounds of Rick Hubbard (one of Kiawah's favorite musicians) while enjoying a bbq, kids festivities, amusement rides, face painting and much more.
9:15 pm-Fireworks from Night Heron Park's soccer field
9:30 pm-Fireworks from The Sanctuary beach
9:30 pm-11:00 pm- Tean Night "Independance"  Teens are invited to the Night Heron Pool deck for a night of fun and dancing immediately following the Night Heron fireworks.

Looking for an adult only experience?  You must try out the "Adult Fireworks Paddle".  From 8pm-10pm, paddle the peaceful salt marshes and rivers and then enjoy the beauty of the fireworks from your kayak.  Breathtaking views of wildlife, sunset, and of course an amazing fireworks display.

Groom Your Puppy and Help with the Oil Spill!
Posted by JacquieJune 11, 2010If you are feeling helpless about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, you can stop! There is a way for concerned citizens to help. I was very thrilled to stumble upon information about an organization called Matter of Trust. Matter of Trust is working with some local pet groomers and veterinarian offices to collect pet hair in order to help clean up the oil spill.

The donated pet hair is collected and stuffed into nylon stockings and Matter of Trust makes booms that are put in the water to absorb the oil.
